The 2005 bankruptcy law changes require people filing bankruptcy to take credit counseling and debtor education courses. The credit counseling course must be completed within 180 days of filing. The debtor education course must be completed prior to receiving a bankruptcy discharge.
Our bankruptcy law firm will set you up with all required courses from a U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee approved credit counseling agency. As a rule, the credit counseling and debtor education courses may not be taken at the same time. Credit counseling must take place before filing while debtor education takes place after filing. The courses can be completed online or over the phone.
